14th Senate District State Central Committee Election News
Several pro-family, pro-life, anti-tax, and gun rights groups endorsed me two
years ago.
My endorsements, so far, for this election include:
Endorsed by the Union Township Republican Party (Clermont County)
Endorsed by the Ohio Republican Party.
Endorsed by the
Ohio Taxpayers Association (OTA).
Endorsed by the
Buckeye Firearms Association.
Endorsed by Ohio Gun PAC.
Endorsed by Harty Wallingford, Chairman of the Adams County Republican Party.
Endorsed by Rodney Barnett, Chairman of the Scioto
County Republican Party.
Endorsed by Ray "Moose" Dutey, Chairman of the Lawrence County
Republican Party.
The following are what others are saying about me:
- "John asked me if I would like to write a paragraph to be sent out in
his Becker Report. As I considered this there are a lot of issues and things
that I could write about but have decided to take this time to say a few
things about John Becker. John was the State Central Committeeman for our
district when I became involved in the party during the Bush Campaign in
2004. Since then I have watched John stay very involved in Brown County. He
has stayed involved by coming to our Central Committee Meetings and coming
to our events. When I ran for Trustee, John came to Brown County (although
this was not in his township or even county) and helped with my campaign by
walking in parades and going to the polls and handing out literature. He has
worked very hard in his position and I believe has served the people well.
As you cast your vote in the Primary on May 2nd I am asking that you
consider casting your vote for John Becker to be re-elected as State Central
Committeeman for our district," said Michelle E. Jowers, Brown
County Republican Club President.
- "John Becker has quickly become one of the most active members of the
State Central Committee. Whether it be actively participating in campaigns
or working on the committee, John aggressively represents the interests of
his district. His newsletter, 'The Becker Report', is an excellent
communications tool for his readers to know what is going on in Ohio
Politics," said Bob Bennett, Ohio Republican Party Chairman. It
is my understanding that I will be endorsed by the Ohio Republican Party in
the next two or three weeks.
- "John Becker is the best State Central Committeeman that we've ever
had. He has been more visible, helpful, and more attentive than all previous
State Central Committeemen combined," said Bill Herdman, former Brown
County Republican Party Chairman. These are enormous compliments considering
the fact that Bill and I were opponents for this position two years ago.
- "John Becker has my personal endorsement for reelection to the
position of Republican State Central Committeeman. In the past two years,
due to the amount of time that John and I have spent working for the
Republican cause, we have become good friends. My endorsement is given
because I feel that John Becker has done an outstanding job, has been very
aggressive, attended all of our functions on a regular basis, and 'The
Becker Report' has kept myself and all of our colleagues well informed of
the current and future events concerning our goals," said Harty
Wallingford, Adams County Republican Party Chairman.
- "John Becker has been a frequent visitor to Scioto County GOP
meetings and special events. He has maintained excellent communications with
party faithful through 'The Becker Report' and has also been a regular
attendee at our Annual Lincoln Day Banquet. If one takes the time to examine
what a State Central Committee Member is supposed to do, one would quickly
find John Becker more than meets the job description. As chairman, I
strongly support John's bid for re-election to the State Committee based in
part on his tremendous dedication to this position, his communication
skills, and his attendance throughout the district," said Rodney
Barnett, Scioto County Republican Party Chairman.
- "John Becker has done an exceptional job supporting Lawrence County.
He has worked at it harder than any other State Central Committeeman that
I've ever known. John Becker's commitment to keeping people informed via
'The Becker Report' and frequent telephone contact is greatly appreciated. I
enthusiastically endorse John Becker for reelection," said Ray
"Moose" Dutey,
Lawrence County Republican Party Chairman.
Please consider my record:
- 100% attendance at all meetings and leadership summits in
Columbus. I've not only attended, but have actively participated.
- 100% attendance at all Clermont County Central Committee
meetings. I have also given reports to the committee and fielded questions.
- Expanded the influence and respect for Clermont County by attending and
participating in a countless number of meetings and events throughout the
region. I've attended every Lincoln Day Dinner in my five counties plus
Butler, Warren, and Pike Counties. I am also a frequent attendee and
participant of the Southern Ohio Chairman's Conference in Jackson and the
Anderson Twp Republican Club. I have also met with the gubernatorial
candidates and most other candidates running for statewide office.
- Creation of "The
Becker Report." It is the only newsletter of its' kind published by
a State Central Committeeman in state history. Chairman Bennett acknowledged
my newsletter and complemented me for it during a State Central Committee
meeting. My newsletter is a friendly publication and is very positive. On a
number of occasions, I have forwarded excerpts and previews for approval
before sending it out. On one occasion, I refused to send an article out to
my distribution list. It "trash-talked" another candidate. I have
always discouraged negative campaigning and primary elections.
- Creation of my web site: www.BeckerGOP.com.
The expense for it and all of the other expenses for my position are
entirely my own. Furthermore, my position gets no financial compensation of
any kind.
- Initiation, creation, and maintenance of the Clermont County Republican
Party web site: www.ClermontGOP.com.
I never asked to or got paid for that either. (Ed Humphrey
is now maintaining that website.)
- Door-to-door campaigning and frequent phone bank caller during the
Bush/Cheney campaign. I worked harder on the Bush/Cheney campaign than I
worked on my own campaign two years ago.
- Publicly addressed and encouraged President Bush at a rally in Portsmouth.
I shook his hand afterward.
- Endorsed and supported Jean Schmidt during the general election.
- Defended Jean Schmidt during the primary election campaign when she was
being "trash-talked" in my eastern counties. On more than one
occasion, I said, "Jean Schmidt is a friend of mine. I've supported her
in the past." My comments certainly did not win me any political
points. But I stood up for her because I believed that it was the right
thing to do.
- Defended Tim Rudd when he was attacked, in an e-mail, a few months ago. On
September 23, 2005, I sent Tim a supportive e-mail. In addition, during a
one-on-one meeting with Executive Director Chris McNulty in Columbus, I
explained to him that Tim was unfairly attacked.
- Nominated and lobbied hard for Connie Bare to become our Elector for the
Electoral College to vote for president. Although I had a majority of votes
lined-up for her, I was told that only the votes of State Central Committee
members would be counted. She deserved the honor more than anyone in
Southern Ohio but did not win.
- Past Bronze Elephant contributor to the Clermont County Party. I've contributed
substantial amounts of time and money to many candidates. This includes
handing out candidate literature at the polls in the early morning and
evening hours. In one form or another, I have worked for most, if not all,
of our countywide office holders. I've also stood out in the rain, for 13
hours, at polling locations.
Who has done more, over the last two years, to earn your support?
If you want my efforts and newsletter to continue, I need your support.
Please vote for me on May 2, 2006.

Past Events
March 15, 2006
At the Clermont County Central Committee meeting, Mike Keeley was introduced as
the new Director of the Clermont County Board of Elections.
Chairman Rudd announced that our Lincoln Day dinner drew about 200 people
and netted $23,000.
George Brown, Danny
Bubp, Allen Freeman, and David R. Smith
addressed the audience.
March 13, 2006
Hundreds of supporters attended Jean Schmidt's
campaign kickoff event at the Montgomery Inn.
Jean and her campaign staff were very excited by the turnout and their
enthusiasm for her reelection.
March 6, 2006
About 400 people attended the Scioto County Lincoln Day Dinner.
As usual, it was one of the nicest events in Southern Ohio.
Rather than a keynote speaker, all candidates were welcome to address the
audience for four or five minutes.
The most extraordinary door prize was a very
large and heavy granite replica of The 10 Commandments.
It was donated by Kay Reynolds.
March 3, 2006
Mark Faust emceed an immigration reform event at the Celestial for Bay Buchanan.
Other speakers included Tom
Brinkman and Bob McEwen.
Senatorial candidate Bill Pierce
also attended.
And as you would expect, the legendary Whistleblower
was dutifully taking notes.
Jen Giroux sent me the following:
Supporters packed the scenic Celestial restaurant to hear Bob McEwen, Tom
Brinkman, and Bay Buchanan speak against the proposed amnesty of illegal
immigrants. Bay Buchanan is Chairman of Team America PAC, which was founded by
Congressman Tom Tancredo, who is the House’s foremost proponent of enforcing
our immigration laws. Bay Buchanan was not only a chief strategist with Reagan
while campaigning, but was appointed by Reagan as the youngest Treasurer of the
United States in history. Bay was responsible for the success in orchestrating
the tipping point New Hampshire battle in 1980 where Reagan and Bush were about
to debate and Reagan growled to the cheers of the crowd and nation “Mr. Green
I paid for this microphone!” Bay, along with her brother, Patrick, has
made a significant contribution in preserving Reagan conservatism in
this country over the past 26 years and continues to promote and defend
traditional and moral principles nationwide.
February 25, 2006
Well over 200 people attended the Adams County Lincoln Day Dinner in Cherry Fork
Jean Schmidt
was the keynote speaker.
Stephen Caraway took over as the new Adams County Republican Club President.
What was perhaps the most memorable moment was when Kay Reynolds donated a very
large and heavy granite replica of The 10 Commandments.
The crowd gasped at the power and significance of this extraordinary gift.
February 23, 2006
About 40 people attended the Adams County Central Committee meeting.
An ODOT job was the primary topic.
February 23, 2006
Brown County's Bill Herdman sponsored a table for the annual Boy Scout Luncheon.
About 700 people donated $213,000
Dick Armey was the keynote speaker
It was my pleasure to sit with Doris Charles, Ed Fuhrmann, Jack Gruber, Bill Herdman,
Bob and Liz McEwen, Roseann Siderits,
and Dan Unger
February 18, 2006
Nearly 200 people attended the Brown County Lincoln Day Dinner.
Keynote speakers included, Danny
Bubp,
Paul Hall,
Tom Niehaus,
and Jean Schmidt.
Dennis & Beverly Lamphier received the Sequoia Award.
