Need a Job?
The Ohio Republican Party has several unpaid internships available at our state headquarters during the 2006 election year. Please contact Jonathan Gormley (gormley@ohiogop.org) to inquire about positions in our political department or John McClelland (jmcclelland@ohiogop.org) to inquire about positions in our communications department.

Get those Petitions
For those of you who wish to become involved in your local Republican Party as a Central Committee member, now is the time.
Go to or call your county Board of Elections to get a petition for your precinct (neighborhood).
The number in Clermont County is: 513-732-7275.
The petitions require only five signatures and must be filed by February 16, 2006.
Often times, precinct positions go uncontested and unfilled. Therefore, getting elected can be quite simple.
I wrote a column about the position: www.beckergop.com/Letters/CentralCommittee.htm.
Each county could be organized differently. Their BOE and/or Party Chairman can help you.
You can also contact me for assistance.
Please note that I like to discourage primary challenges or running against an active member.

"Petitiongate"
Our candidates for state offices are scrambling to circulate new petitions.
Confusion developed due to potential interpretations (or misinterpretations) of a new state law aimed at professional petition circulators.
The new law requires a "Form 14" to be filed before petitions can be circulated by paid consulting firms or other paid organizations such as labor unions.
It is my understanding that the law was never intended to be applied to paid campaign staff.
Most of our statewide candidates used only paid and volunteer campaign staff to circulate petitions.
However, they are not willing to risk how a liberal judge may rule if their petitions are challenged.
Therefore, they are scrambling to obtain 1,000 valid signatures on new petitions.
The Democrats rely on labor unions and other paid groups to circulate petitions and therefore knew to file "Form 14."
