I hope that everyone had a very politically incorrect Merry Christmas.
2006 promises to be an exciting year in local and state politics.

Condolences
I am saddened to report that Rodney Barnett's mother passed away on December 8, 2005.
She was very active in politics and served as President of the Eastern Scioto County Republican Club.
Also, she had served as the precinct committeeman for Bloom Twp.
Rodney's mother was 74-years-old.

Other news
Scioto County's Sylvan Davis has announced that he is running for his 30th term as a precinct committeeman.
Upon completion, he will have served 60 years in the same precinct.
We are interested in learning if this is a new record for Ohio or even the country.
Please let me know if someone, in history, has served longer.

14th Senate District State Central Committee Election News
On December 20th, I received a courtesy call from one of my friends on the Clermont County Central Committee.
He is a fine gentleman whom I have liked and respected for the many years that I've known him.
As a friend, he let me know that he intends to run against me.
We both agreed that we want to maintain our friendship during the campaign.
Win, lose, or draw; that is important to me.
Should he win, he can count on my full support as your new State Central Committeeman.

After getting off of the phone that night and going to bed, I tried to think of what more I could have possibly done, over the past two years, to earn the support of the Party that I've worked so hard to support.
Some of the things that I thought of that I have done include the following:

For those of you who appreciate my efforts and this newsletter, and want to see it "live-on" for another two years, I need your help:
My most immediate concern is the January 18, 2006 Clermont County Central Committee meeting.
Endorsements will be discussed.
My home county's endorsement is most important to me.
If you are a member of the Clermont County Central Committee, please support me during the endorsement process.
If you have a friend on the Clermont County Central Committee, please ask your friend to support me.
It is also important to me to get endorsed by my other four counties.
I would also greatly appreciate it if you would contact the Chairman and other influential people in Brown, Adams, Scioto, and Lawrence Counties.
Additionally, a long list of personal endorsements would also be beneficial.

2nd Congressional District Election News
Bob McEwen will most likely run against Jean Schmidt.
He has formed an exploratory committee.

Gubernatorial Election News
Ken Blackwell, Pete DraganicBetty Montgomery, and Jim Petro are the candidates.
Phil Heimlich is with Jim Petro and remains the only named candidate for Lt. Governor.

U.S. Senate Election News
Retired USAF Lt.Col. John Mitchel, Bill Pierce, and David R. Smith are challenging Senator Mike DeWine.
Bob McEwen is also a potential contender. See http://bobmcewenforsenate.com/Page1.html

Secretary of State Election News
Ann Womer Benjamin, Greg Hartmann, and Jim Trakas are the candidates.
Rob Montgomery was also mentioned.

State Auditor Election News
Mary Taylor is the only candidate.

Attorney General Election News
Tim Grendell and Ron O'Brien appear to be the only candidates.

State Treasurer Election News
It appears that John Hritz is no longer challenging Jennette Bradley.
However, Ashtabula County Auditor, Sandy O'Brien, announced she was not seeking reelection to her position so that she may pursue the Republican nomination for State Treasurer in the May primary.

6th Congressional District Election News
Danny Harmon, Chuck Blasdel, Tim Ginter, and Richard Holt have been campaigning.

88th Ohio House District Election News
Paul Hall is likely to challenge Danny Bubp.
He will make a final decision in January.

Ohio Supreme Court Election News
Twelfth District Court of Appeals Judge Stephen Powell is seeking Party endorsement to run against liberal Democrat Alice Resnick (if she dares to run for reelection).

Past Events
December 7, 2005
The Anderson Twp (Hamilton County) Republican Club hosted a candidate's night at the Mercy HealthPlex.
Betty Montgomery and Pete Draganic were the only two gubernatorial candidates.
The US Senate candidates included: Retired USAF Lt.Col. John Mitchel, Bill Pierce, and David R. Smith.
Jim Trakas was the only candidate for Secretary of State.
The lovely Mary Taylor remains the only candidate for Auditor.
Both Tim Grendell and Ron O'Brien campaigned for Attorney General.
Other speakers at the event included Tom Brinkman and George Vincent.
As you would expect, the dynamic Russ Jackson emceed the event.
In addition to the speakers, the audience was full of well-known officials and influential people.
No Anderson Township event would be complete without mentioning that the media was represented by the legendary Whistleblower.

December 2, 2005
The Republican State Central Committee conducted our last meeting for 2005.
Chris McNulty talked about State Issues 2 - 5.
He pointed out that the ORP did a better job of communicating with the Democrat County Chairman than the Ohio Democrat Party did.
The leadership summit was discussed.
A list of names was distributed of those County Chairman who did not attend.
Unfortunately, two of my five counties made the list (Clermont and Scioto).
The Chairman are strongly encouraged to send a representative if they cannot attend the summits.
Chairman Bennett thanked the members of the State Central Committee for volunteering our time and money over the past year.
Voter turnout was discussed.
The best and worst counties were listed.
Only one of my five made either list.
Unfortunately, Clermont County was the 2nd worst in the state at 32%. (Franklin County was last at 29%.)
Jean Schmidt was our lunchtime keynote speaker.

December 1, 2005
Chairman Bennett's Annual Christmas Party was, once again, a great success.
Ken Blackwell and Betty Montgomery were the only two gubernatorial candidates to attend.
However, my friend Phil Heimlich was there to represent Jim Petro.
As you would expect, many other candidates, mavens, and supporters filled the room.
