Update
October 12, 2004
While in Columbus on business, I enjoyed lunch with Jonathan Gormley.
We talked about a number of issues and agreed that the 88th House race was the
most competitive in Clermont County.
I explained to him that I was concerned that Cy Richardson has good name
recognition in Clermont County and Danny Bubp does not.
Mr. Gormely assured me that the Ohio GOP was working with and helping Mr. Bubp.
Prediction (never in doubt
and rarely correct)
With the help of Brown and Adams Counties, Danny Bubp will win with 55 to 60
percent of the vote.
Later that evening, I attended Brown County's Central Committee meeting in
Georgetown.
I wanted to learn their secret to success.
About 25 people or so filled HQ, which looks like an old bank, complete with
teller windows and a vault.
It appears that the secret to getting out 93% of the Republican vote is simply
good planning and hard work.
They will be checking the polls on Election Day at 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM to find
out who has not yet voted.
Those Republicans will then get friendly reminder phone calls.
That is just one example of how Brown County works smart.
They also do a lot of door-to-door work and welcoming new residents to the
county.
Brown County has one secret weapon that cannot be replicated by any other
county: Bill Herdman
He and Paul Hall make a great team.
They are also blessed to have a large organization of hard working and smart
Central Committeemen and volunteers.
October 11, 2004
It was great to see Dick Cheney at the Clermont County Airport.
A crowd of nearly 3,000 people was fired up and didn't hold back.
I was fortunate enough to be able to muscle my way through the crowd to shake hands
with him as he worked the line.
The Vice President looked me straight in the eye as he took my hand.
All I could think to say was, "Thank you Mr. Cheney."
On the way home, I saw several police cars set to block traffic and clear SR 32.
I decided to sit on the corner in front of Meyers with a Bush/Cheney yard sign
and watch the motorcade go by.
There were already two people there and a few more joined our group including
Jeff Hardin.
It appeared that someone waved from the limousine as it sped by, but I couldn't
tell who it was.
October 10, 2004
Harry Cooper Snyder and I were
invited to a Sunday Bible study class
to speak on the topic of "Should Christians Vote?"
During my ten minute presentation, I argued that not voting could be a sin of omission.
I referenced James 4:17 Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.
(NIV)
On the topic of how to vote, I referenced Ecclesiastes 10:2 The heart of the
wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left. (NIV)
Fortunately, it was a good natured crowd and nobody threw a chair.
October 9, 2004
Dan and Gail Rolfes hosted a reception for Congressman Portman at their Loveland
estate.
Unfortunately, Rob was unable to attend due to pressing business in Washington.
However, he did call and we listened to him on the speakerphone.
He also took questions from the crowd.
It is always good to meet new people and catch up with old friends.
October 8, 2004
The second presidential debate was much more enjoyable than the first.
I found one particular question and answer
most intriguing:
A young lady asked Senator Kerry for reassurance that her tax dollars would not
be used to support abortion.
His response was as follows:
"... you have to afford people their constitutional rights ... and making
certain that you don't deny a poor person the right to be able to have whatever
the Constitution affords them if they can't afford it otherwise."
Is Senator Kerry suggesting that the taxpayers subsidize all constitutional
rights for poor people?
Or only some constitutional rights?
If so, which ones?
What about freedom of religion?
Should we pay for the poor's expenses incurred by them to worship?
What about freedom of the press?
Should the government provide poor people with printing presses and computer
equipment?
What about the right to peaceably assemble and to petition the government for
the redress of grievances?
Are the taxpayers responsible for the poor's transportation and lodging expenses
in Washington DC?
What about the right of the people to keep and bear arms?
What kind of guns would Senator Kerry give to poor people?
Senator Kerry seems to have a fundamental misunderstanding regarding
constitutional rights.
Simply put: Rights do not cost anything.
Otherwise, one person's "right" would place an obligation on another.
October 5, 2004
The Georgetown Church of Christ hosted Anthony Munoz and about 350 people or so
from the community.
Every bit of this event was very impressive.
The church was beautiful as was Doug Green's singing.
Brown County has a well-oiled Republican machine.
And I keep hearing that Bill Herdman is largely responsible for that.
While enjoying the Bush/Cheney rally, a large man sat down next to
me.
I looked over and saw that it was Anthony Munoz.
This was the second time that we had met.
Later, Mr. Munoz gave a speech and took questions from the audience.
His speech was obviously heart felt, genuine, and sincere.
We are very fortunate to have him on our team.
During his Q&A session, I had the opportunity to ask Mr. Munoz a question(s):
"What was your take on the first presidential debate?
What do you expect to see in tonight's VP debate?
And what do you expect from the next two presidential debates going
forward?"
After the Georgetown event, Mr. Munoz made a brief stop in Batavia to watch the
VP debate.
I again greeted him and this time he remembered me. (I'm never sure if that's a
good thing.)
A boy brought a football for him to autograph.
Mr. Munoz did so with a smile.
He is a class act.
Wasn't that a great debate?
Our side clearly won that one.

Thought for the day
A Republican and a Democrat were walking down the street.
They approached a homeless person.
The Republican gave the homeless person his business card and told him to come
to his business for a job.
He then took twenty dollars out of his pocket and gave it to the homeless
person.
The Democrat was very impressed, and when they came to another homeless person,
he decided to help.
He walked over to the homeless person and gave him directions to the welfare
office.
He then reached into the Republican's pocket and got out twenty dollars.
He kept 15 for administrative fees and gave the homeless person five.
Now you understand the difference between Republicans and Democrats.
