News from Columbus
My first meeting was April 6 at GOP HQ. It was
exciting to meet Chairman Bennett, his staff, and other new Central Committee
members. Fun was had by all afterward at a local restaurant.
At the April 7 State Central Committee meeting:
Ohio Supreme Court Justice Terrence O’Donnell swore in all State Central Committee members.
JoAnn Davidson was elected to the RNC replacing Martha Moore.
Mick Colley was re-elected to the RNC for his final term.
My binder of information contained a section called “Talking Points.” They are attached. Let me know if you cannot open the attached file. I will either fax or mail them to you.
In addition to the attached, I found many points of information to be interesting:
No Republican has ever been elected w/o Ohio
In year 2000, Democrats did better in last 72 hours getting out the vote
Our victory was by only 3.6%
For 2004 we are emphasizing targeted voter registration
Person-to-person contact
The final 72 hours are key
Ohio is 65.4% Republican controlled
No Democrats filed in 11 counties
Four Ohio Supreme Court Justices will be on the ballot in November. Running for re-election are Chief Justice Moyer and Justices Pfiefer and O’Donnell. Judge Judy Lanzinger, 6th DistrictCourt of Appeals, is running for the seat being vacated by Justice Sweeney. Her Democrat opponent is Judge Nancy Fuerst, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas.
A voter who misses a primary election automatically loses party affiliation and becomes an independent
The 72 Hour Department is new. Four coordinators are currently in place. Six more will be hired.
The GeoVoter system will be used for targeted mailings and walking lists
$475 million will be spent by the AFL/CIO, America Coming Together, the NAACP, and others to defeat President Bush
Our focus will be on decentralization, voter registration, absentee ballot applications, follow-up phone calls and voter-specific slate cards
Current polling shows Bush and Kerry even in Ohio
Ohio is number one in job growth
The Ohio economy is growing at the fastest rate in four years
We have positive job growth in all regions
I was given information regarding our budget and finances. I’m not sure what is public and what is proprietary. Therefore, I’ve chosen not to comment on finances at this time.
My next meeting in Columbus is scheduled for September 24, 2004.
Web Sites
The Ohio GOP web site has been completely redone
and is awesome.
I’ve decided to take responsibility for updating
all five counties information at www.ohiogop.org.
Let me know what information you want listed. e.g.,
names, phone numbers, addresses, e-mail, information on elected officials,
pending legislation, voter registration, etc.
The Ohio GOP web site will also provide a link to
individual county web sites.
Jason Mauk is the Ohio GOP Communications Director
and our media contact.
Let me know if you choose to set up a web site for your county GOP. I am willing to help.
Final Comments

I’m very pleased to see the commitment throughout
the district to re-elect our president.
As you know, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
George W. Bush must win Ohio!!!
Support is available from the Ohio GOP.
Please let me know what we can do to support your
efforts.
