"Rob Portman would have enormous support in this part of the world," said Republican state central committeeman John Becker, whose district includes Clermont, Brown, Adams, Scioto and part of Lawrence County. "He was an incredibly popular congressman."
Becker, and other Republicans, also see Portman as a potential 2008 vice presidential candidate.
"A (Fred) Thompson-Portman ticket; that works for me," Becker said.

A large number of elected officials attended including State Representative, Tom Brinkman, along with his wife Cathy.
The Clermont County delegation included, Peter Schmidt, Glen Chapman and family, and Greg Carson.
