Candidates for the Ohio Republican Party Deputy Chairman position:
I have met with Curt Braden, Dale Fellows, and Kevin DeWine.
All three are very impressive and would do a great job as Party Chairman.
I must choose one.
As always, I'm interested in reader feedback regarding these candidates.

Editorial Page
I received the following recommendation for Kevin DeWine for ORP Deputy Chair:
Hi John,
I know we are a long way from your vote, and we'll surely learn more about each candidate, but I just wanted to drop you a note of support for Kevin DeWine for the Deputy Chairman position in the Republican Party.
Kevin is a true conservative, something our party needs at the helm to provide direction after our losses last year. He is a proven leader as Speaker Pro-Temp in the Ohio House and a good fundraiser.
Obviously, I feel very strongly about Second Amendment issues. I know party leadership's failure to understand and defend such constitutional rights hurt us at the ballot box last year. That mistake should never be repeated, and I believe DeWine understands that.
Maybe most important is his understanding of the importance of the grassroots to the party's future. The arrogance of our leaders was a significant reason many (Republican) people who worked tirelessly for President Bush in 04, worked on Democratic campaigns in 06. Obviously, another thing we simply can't afford.
For our next party leader, we must have a strong leader, with a good moral compass. He must understand all of our party's major issues, and be able to discuss them with the highest officials of state, as well as the grassroots volunteer. And he must be able to raise the funds required to execute good plans. Anything short of the complete package will lead to failure.
I believe Kevin DeWine is the best candidate for the job.
May you and your fellow Central committee people elect the best person.

The Columbus Dispatch covered the event and reported the following:

Republicans at the dinner in Clermont County, one of Ohio's most conservative, were delighted to learn about Kasich's interest in the governor's office.
"I'd like to see John get back involved," said Clermont County GOP Chairman Tim Rudd. "John is very high profile with Fox News and is very well known, but a lot of his popularity in the party is based on what he did back in Congress" to balance the federal budget.
John Becker, a member of the state GOP central committee from Clermont County, said Kasich's "great record and his conservative credentials and name ID make him a formidable candidate for governor.

Ten people attended the Clermont County Republican Club reorganization meeting.
The majority of those voting concluded that the club was unnecessary and then abolished it.
