PAC, Ohioans for Concealed Carry, COAST, Ohio Republican Party, Clermont County
Republican Party, Union Twp Republican Party, Southern Ohio GOP Chairmen's

State
Ballot Issues
State
Issue 1
– This Judicial Retirement Age Constitutional Amendment increases the maximum
age for assuming elected or appointed judicial office from 70 to 75. This would
allow the ultra-liberal Justice Pfeifer to run for re-election. That alone is
enough for me to vote "NO."
State Issue 2 - Vote YES to
support taxpayers, reasonable reforms, and fairness.
The Ohio Republican Party has endorsed a “YES” vote.
Anyone willing to take a public role in support of Issue 2 should reach out to
Dave Luketic at dave.luketic@gmail.com. Also go to www.BetterOhio.org.
State Issue 3 - Health Care
Freedom Act Constitutional Amendment
The Ohio Republican Party has endorsed a “YES” vote.
Those interested in volunteering on behalf of the Health Care Freedom Amendment can email Michael
Bir at bir@ohiogop.org.
Beckerisms
There
have been some exciting discoveries of natural gas in Utica and Marcellus shale
in Eastern Ohio. Chesapeake Energy announced that it could generate as much as
$20 billion from the find. I fully support the exploration, production, and
distribution of oil and natural gas throughout Ohio. This is very important for
economic development, job creation, and revenue for the state. The increase in
supply of natural gas will lead to its reduction in price (all else being equal).
That's something to think about when we're heating our homes this winter.
I'm disappointed that the House passed version of photo IDs, for voting, did
not pass the Senate. Considering that free photo IDs would be made available to
the public, the argument against them rings hollow.
Speaking of "rings hollow," I heard a commentator compare blaming the
Tea Party for the US credit downgrade is like blaming Paul Revere for the
Revolutionary War. Another comparison was blaming a fireman for the fire that he
is attempting to extinguish. I like those analogies. The Tea Party has been
shining light on the problem and offering solutions to fix it. Cut, Cap, and
Balance is a great approach. I also liked Rush Limbaugh's descriptions of
President Obama: "Obamageddon," "Barackalypse now," and
"Obama is a debt man walking."
Regarding raising the national debt limit, I support it. However, I would have
liked to have seen a real commitment to reducing our bloated federal
government. For example, they could have started by agreeing to eliminate some
of the cabinet agencies that are either unnecessary or the domain of the
states. I would have started with the Department of Education.
I found the following comparison of the federal budget to the household budget:
Annual Family Income: $21,700
Annual Family Expenditures: $38,200
Annual Family Deficit Spending: $16,500 (Do the math.)
Family Credit Card Balance: $142,710
Family agrees to reduce spending by $385.
And then they wondered why their credit rating got reduced. (It's the
neighbor's fault.)

Past
Events
August 24, 2011
About 100 people attended the Clermont County Central Committee meeting in
Batavia. Jean Schmidt was the featured speaker. A spirited Q&A followed.
Ohio Supreme Court candidate, Sharon Kennedy, also spoke to the crowd. More
than a dozen other candidates and elected officials addressed the group.
Chairman Rudd discussed multiple issues including presidential candidates,
sample ballots, HB 194, the picnic, and the county fair.
August 23, 2011
The Union Twp Tea Party met at the Civic Center to show Agenda. About 50
people attended. There weren’t many surprises in the movie. It was a
documentary about how leftists have taken over institutions throughout America.
August 20, 2011
Jeff Kohls and I attended a leadership conference, in Columbus, on behalf of
Issue 2. The list of speakers included Kevin DeWine, Dave Yost, Vaughn Flasher,
Tom Niehaus, Matt Mayer, Neil Newhouse, Jason Mauk, Dave Luketic, Jeff
Longstreth, Mike Bir, and Darren Bearson.
Jeff and I also attended a reception at the governor's mansion. Governor Kasich
spoke to the crowd about several issues, but mostly State Ballot Issue 2.
During Q&A, I asked the following: "Governor, one of the reasons that
I got excited about your candidacy for governor was your proposal to phase out
the state income tax. (I understand that there have been other priorities to
deal with.) What is the plan, going forward, to phase out the state income
tax?" Governor Kasich responded that the political will in the
legislature, to phase out the income tax, was not encouraging. However, it is
still on his agenda.
The Becker plan to phase out the state income tax is as follows:
1) Abolish the marriage penalty. This is as simple as allowing Ohio
taxpayers to choose their filing status (joint or separate) independent of how
they file their federal return.
2) Eliminate Ohio's nine progressive tax brackets in favor of a flat tax.
3) Gradually reduce the flat tax rate until it is eliminated. This can be done
over a ten year period without increasing other taxes. I would also support a
more aggressive five year phaseout.
August 12, 2011
Nearly 40 people attended the Center-Right Coalition meeting near Blue Ash.
About ten people spoke on various issues.
August 11, 2011
Brad Wenstrup was the featured speaker at the Miami Twp Tea Party meeting.
Michael Collins emceed the event. Topics discussed included the health care
freedom amendment, national debt ceiling, a Clermont County update, and the
Clermont County Transportation Connection (CTC). All Miami Twp elected
officials, all three Commissioners, Danny Bubp, Joe Uecker, and Linda Fraley
attended. In addition to Mr. Collins and Dr. Wenstrup, other candidates
included Mark Keitel, George Pattison, Vince Faris, and Tina Sanborn. About
55 people attended.
August 3, 2011
About 35 people attended "Understanding Your School Board from an Insiders
Perspective" presented by Dr. Kelly Kohls of the Liberty Alliance. The
meeting was held in Indian Hill and much Q&A followed.
August 2, 2011
The Buckeye Institute's Greg Lawson was the featured speaker at the Clermont
County Tea Party meeting. He discussed the 15 myths of collective bargaining
reform. Faye Miller also presented the CECOS problem. I spotted several elected
officials in the crowd including Ed Humphrey, Bob True, and Brown County's Doug
Green. About 250 people attended.
August 1, 2011
Nearly 30 people attended the Union Twp (Clermont County) Republican Central
Committee meeting. Topics discussed included the national debt, endorsements,
and precinct development. Several candidates addressed the committee: Matt
Beamer and Lloyd Acres for Trustee; Tina Sanborn and Jeff Kohls for School
Board; George Pattison for Judge. County Prosecutor Don White also attended.
Jane Brandt also gave a healthcare update.
July 28, 2011
Nearly 20 people attended the Brown County GOP Club meeting in Georgetown.
Major topics of discussion included favorite presidential candidates, picnic,
golf outing, parade, and county fair. Peter Schmidt and I attended from
Clermont County.
July 24, 2011
About 20 friends and supporters joined me at the Clermont County Fair parade in
Owensville. My F150 SuperCrew 4x4 was decked out with magnetic signs, an LED
lighted rooftop sign, and an inflated eight foot tall GOP elephant. Many thanks
to my helpers and to Joe Uecker for loaning me the elephant.
July 22, 2011
I guest hosted the TIB All Stars Radio Show . Several topics were covered
