Disclaimer
This newsletter is not sanctioned by the GOP,
ORP, or any organization, or affiliation. I am fully and solely responsible for
its content. Although I strive for accuracy, this is not "The Gospel
according to John." Additionally, I don't necessarily try to be "fair
and balanced." After all, I didn't get into politics to be a news
reporter. My agenda is to influence public policy consistent with Southern Ohio
conservative values. For more information on my motivations or how to get
involved, see: What is a Central Committee?
Congratulations
According to the National
Journal, Jean Schmidt is the 6th
most conservative member of congress. As a point of reference, Michelle Bachmann is 19th.
The American Conservative Union rated Jean Schmidt as a 100%
for both 2009 and 2010. Her lifetime rating is 92.42%. She is also on the ACU
“House standout” list and earned the coveted “Defenders of Liberty” award.
Debe Terhar is now president of the
State Board of Education.
Darren Bearson is the new
Executive Director for the Ohio GOP.
John Becker in the News
A few quotes of mine made it into the print edition of The
Cincinnati Enquirer on March 21st. The
on-line version is here. The topic was Democrat momentum and the labor
movement: “John Becker, a GOP state central committeeman from Clermont County,
said he believes the trend will reverse when Ohioans see that Kasich's budget
and Senate Bill 5 are working, ‘creating a better climate to grow jobs in
Ohio.’
‘This is what the governor said he would do; and following through on your
campaign pledges is never a bad thing,’ Becker said.”
Beckerisms
It is my understanding that our federal budget deficit is currently
about $1.5 trillion. Therefore, if congress does not cut spending by that
amount, they are arguably incompetent. Regarding funding for National Public Radio,
Public Television, and the National Endowment for the Arts: Unconstitutional
and unnecessary. Regarding funding for Planned Parenthood: Unconscionable!

Ohio's Marriage Penalty
It is a little known fact that Ohio's married taxpayers are frequently better
off Filing Separate returns instead of Joint when both spouses have taxable
income. This is due to Ohio’s progressive income tax. The more you make, the
greater percentage they take. The marriage penalty begins when Joint Taxable
Income reaches $5,800! For more information, I've updated an information
page for the 2010 tax year. Additionally, I've updated an Excel
spreadsheet calculator for taxpayers to calculate exactly how much they are
personally impacted by Ohio's marriage penalty. From experience, I can tell you
that few legislators are aware of this problem and even fewer seem to care. That
will change after I'm elected to the Ohio House!
When you file your Federal 1040 and your Ohio IT 1040, please remember the
check-off box to contribute $3 and $1 respectively to the major political
parties. The Ohio and county Republican Parties will benefit.
On the subject of taxes, I am registered with the IRS to do tax returns
including e-file. Please contact me if I can be of service.
