Disclaimer
This newsletter is not sanctioned by the GOP, ORP, or any organization, or affiliation. I am fully and solely responsible for its content. Although I strive for accuracy, this is not "The Gospel according to John." Additionally, I don't necessarily try to be "fair and balanced." After all, I didn't get into politics to be a news reporter. My agenda is to influence public policy consistent with Southern Ohio conservative values. For more information on my motivations or how to get involved, see: What is a Central Committee?

Prayers Needed
Former Clermont County Chairman and Retired State Representative, Rose Vesper, has not been well and needs our prayers.
Brown County’s Rick Eagan was seriously injured and needs prayer. He is currently in Deaconess Hospital in rehab.

Tax Talk
Many thanks to all of you who donated to my State Senate campaign. Please remember to claim the credit on line 55 of your 2009 Ohio IT 1040. You will get the full amount back.

The Ohio Marriage Penalty continues to live on. You can easily calculate how much Ohio’s progressive income tax penalizes taxpayers for being married. (What is wrong with this picture?) I have
an information page for more details or you can go directly to the marriage penalty calculator that I developed.

When you file your Federal 1040 and your Ohio IT 1040, please remember the check-off box to contribute $3 and $1 respectively to the major political parties. The Ohio and county Republican Parties will benefit.

Charles Miller had been challenging Paul Pfeifer but dropped out.

What is the
Apportionment Board?
The Board consists of the Governor, Secretary of State, State Auditor, and a Republican and Democrat selected from the Legislature. Control is important because the Board redraws the State House and State Senate districts based on the 2010 national census. The Party redrawing the district lines will have a huge advantage in determining control of the legislature in 2012 and beyond. The 2010 legislature will redraw the US House districts.

Congress
Jean Schmidt is endorsed by the Clermont County GOP. She is also 1 of 56 House members with a 2009 ACU rating of 100% and a 91% Life rating. Jean is 1 of 3 in Ohio with a 2009 ACU rating of 100%. Her Eagle Forum rating is 100% and she has a 92% Club for Growth rating.
Debbi Alsfelder, Mike Kilburn, and Tim Martz (who?) are also candidates.

Richard Stobbs is a candidate in the 6th Congressional District.

Clermont County Commissioner
Batavia Township Trustee, Archie Wilson, is challenging Scott Croswell. Archie is endorsed by the Clermont County GOP. Scott may run as an independent.

Woody Breyer and Tom Herman are running for the six-year term of the retiring Judge Walker.

12th District Court of Appeals
Robin Piper and Rachel Hutzel are running for separate seats. They are endorsed by the Clermont County GOP.

I do not have a challenger. However, in preparation for that concern, I have secured the following endorsements: Clermont County GOP, Union Twp (Clermont County) GOP, Scioto County GOP Club, Family First PAC, Ohio Gun PAC, Ohio Pro-Life PAC, and American Family PAC of Ohio.

Past Events
March 5, 2010
David Pepper was the featured speaker at the Government Strategies Group “First Friday” luncheon. He spoke mostly about Hamilton County and very little about his bid for State Auditor.

March 3, 2010
The Anderson Twp GOP Club hosted a candidate’s night. Mary Taylor was the featured speaker and Seth Morgan was the only other statewide candidate. Lori Viars had the most applause lines. Funeral Home owner Mike Kilburn was asked if there were any skeletons in his closet. It was great to see my SCC colleagues, Mary Ann Christie and Christa Criddle.

March 1, 2010
The Union Twp (Clermont County) GOP Central Committee met to consider two endorsement requests. I was unanimously endorsed by secret ballot for re-election to GOP State Central Committeeman: 19 for and 0 against. Archie Wilson for commissioner was also endorsed: 13 for and 6 against.

February 24, 2010
The Breyer for Judge campaign sent me the following:

The Breyer for Judge campaign committee sponsored a fundraising event at the Eastgate Receptions. It was quite a success. Over 100 people stopped in throughout the evening including a number of dignitaries. The Honorable Lee Hildebrandt of the Ohio First District Court of Appeals, Commissioner Scott Croswell, Judge Stephanie Wyler, Auditor Linda Fraley, State Central Committeeman John Becker, and Ohio House Representative Joe Uecker were just a few of the many guests in attendance. We all felt safe in the company of many police chiefs: They were Jim Smith (Pierce), Terry Zinser (Union), Mike Freeman (Owensville), Mark Machan (Milford), Tim Sabransky (Loveland), and Randy Harvey (New Richmond). Although checks continue to trickle in, the event has already netted over $17,000 after expenses. Woody Breyer wants to thank everyone who helped make this event memorable and hopes everyone had a good time.

February 24, 2010
Well over 100 candidates attended a regional Tea Party meeting in West Chester. I was one of many who signed the Tea Party pledge.

February 18, 2010
Mike DeWine conducted a conference call with pollsters Neil Newhouse and Mark Weaver. They discussed DeWine’s commanding lead and road to victory in November.

February 17, 2010
About 50 people attended the Clermont County Central Committee meeting to hear Steve Christopher and Seth Morgan talk about their candidacies for A/G and State Auditor respectively. Chairman Rudd talked about the successful Lincoln Day Dinner. About 160 people attended and it cleared $18,000. He also stated that 40,000 sample ballots will be printed and that the offices of A/G and State Auditor will not appear because our endorsed candidates are no longer running for those offices.
