Disclaimer
Nobody asked me to include this, but it seems like a good idea:
This newsletter is not sanctioned by the GOP, ORP, or any organization, or affiliation. I am fully and solely responsible for its' content. Although I strive for accuracy, this is not "The Gospel according to John." Additionally, I don't necessarily try to be "fair and balanced." After all, I didn't get into politics to be a news reporter. My agenda is to influence public policy consistent with Southern Ohio conservative values. For more information on my motivations or how to get involved, see:

Prayers Needed
Brown County Clerk of Courts
Tina Meranda continues to appreciate all prayers.
Former Clermont County Chairman and Retired State Representative, Rose Vesper, has not been well and needs our prayers.

In the Media
Rebuttal published by The
Cincinnati Enquirer in the 6/30/2009 print edition:

The Cincinnati Enquirer
The June 28th guest column, “Raise taxes to care for the weakest among us,” argued that Ohio’s budget should be “balanced on the backs of those of us who can afford to pay.” I strongly disagree.
We as individuals, families, churches and non-profit groups need to shoulder this burden. The state government cannot and should not attempt to be all things to all people.
A better approach is to reduce income and business taxes. The resulting economic growth would increase jobs, personal income, tax revenues, and donations to churches and non-profit groups so that they can better serve the poor.

Ohio’s Budget Crisis
The Buckeye Institute published a list of 10 suggestions to cut $3 billion out of the budget.

Video Central
This is a very interesting video from Mission America’s Linda Harvey regarding the religious left.

Not so sure about health care reform.

Local Races for 2009
Tim Rudd is being challenged for the office of Municipal Clerk of Courts. Tim is also the Clermont County GOP Party Chairman.

A Preview of the 2010 Statewide Races
US Senate
Rob Portman is endorsed by every member of the Ohio House and Senate caucus. He is also endorsed by nearly every GOP county chairman and State Central Committee member.
Bob Paduchik is Rob’s campaign manager. Anyone interested in helping with the campaign should contact
Christa Criddle at 513-476-5707.
Tom Ganley has also announced his candidacy.

Governor (Apportionment Board Office)
Kevin Coughlin has dropped out of the race.
Todd Kritzwiser is a local candidate who is also seeking the office. He can be contacted at 937-444-Ohio (6446). Todd lives in Brown County's Sterling Twp. near Williamsburg.
John Kasich has officially announced and is considered to be our challenger to Gov. Strictland.

Auditor of State (Apportionment Board Office)
Mary Taylor is running unopposed in the GOP primary.

State Treasurer
Josh Mandel has announced his candidacy and appears to be running unopposed in the primary. He has a great announcement video.

Secretary of State (Apportionment Board Office)
Jon Husted and Sandy O'Brien have announced their candidacies.

Attorney General
Dave Yost has announced his candidacy. Mike DeWine is planning to make Mr. Yost fight for it.

Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice
Former Attorney General,
Jim Petro, is planning to run against Justice Maureen O'Conner. It is important to note that if Justice O'Connor wins, she would have to resign and Gov. Strictland would appoint a Democrat.

Ohio Supreme Court
Judith Lanzinger and Paul Pfeifer will run for re-election.

What is the
Apportionment Board?
The Board consists of the Governor, Secretary of State, State Auditor, and a Republican and Democrat selected from the Legislature. Control is important because the Board redraws the State House and State Senate districts based on the 2010 national census. The Party redrawing the district lines will have a huge advantage in determining control of the legislature in 2012 and beyond. The legislature redraws the US House districts.

Becker for State Senate
The Primary Election is 32 months away. I've been meeting with people, getting ideas, and raising money.

Past Events
July 21, 2009
Dave Yost hosted a conference call regarding his candidacy for Attorney General. He mentioned that he attended 46 Lincoln Day Dinners and visited 60 counties since February. “The people are eager for fresh faces and leadership,” said Mr. Yost. Additionally, he said, “I’m in the race to stay and am resolute.” He has been endorsed by 70 percent of Ohio’s prosecutors and was very upbeat about the campaign. Unlike former Senator Mike DeWine, Mr. Yost is pro-second Amendment, supported the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and supports drilling in ANWR. And finally, Mr. Yost magnanimously stated that he would pledge his full support to Mike DeWine if he were to win the primary election.

June 26, 2009
Members of the State Committee and County Chairmen met in Columbus to discuss our candidates for 2010. It was an open, honest, and sometimes hard hitting discussion. The most popular candidate discussed was
Rob Portman. I used the words “no brainer” during my argument favoring Party endorsement for Mr. Portman. Many of my concerns regarding John Kasich and the gun lobby were relieved when I learned that he has been reaching out to that constituency. Our candidates for Auditor, Secretary of State, and Treasurer were discussed without much debate or concern. Former Senator Mike DeWine’s potential candidacy generated a great deal of controversy. Many strong opinions were expressed.
It was also exciting to see Scioto County Chairman, Dr. Terry Johnson. He has safely returned from Iraq.
