Disclaimer
Nobody asked me to include this, but it seems like a good idea:
This newsletter is not sanctioned by the GOP, ORP, or any organization, or affiliation.
I am fully and solely responsible for its' content. Although I strive for
accuracy, this is not "The Gospel according to John." Additionally, I
don't necessarily try to be "fair and balanced." After all, I didn't
get into politics to be a news reporter. My agenda is to influence public policy
consistent with Southern Ohio conservative values. For more information on my
motivations or how to get involved, see: What
is a Central Committee?
Prayers Needed
Please keep Danny Bubp in your prayers while he serves our country in Iraq.
Tina Meranda has been
diagnosed with throat cancer and is also in need of our prayers.
Please pray for Kay Reynolds' granddaughter who witnessed
her fifth-grade teacher stabbed (and/or shot) by her estranged husband in
Portsmouth.
Pray that our nation does not have to suffer through a third term in office for
the "Clintonistas."
Or suffer an "Obamination."

Ohio Marriage Penalty
It is a little known fact that Ohio's married taxpayers are frequently better
off Filing Separate returns instead of Joint when both spouses are employed.
This is due to Ohio’s progressive income tax. The more you make, the greater
percentage they take. The marriage penalty begins when Joint Taxable Income
reaches $5,650! For more information, I've updated an information
page for the 2007 tax year. Additionally, I've updated an Excel
spreadsheet calculator for taxpayers to calculate exactly how much they are
personally impacted by Ohio's marriage penalty.
Is Hillary Clinton Evil?
Hillary had been a girl scout and was active in the United Methodist Church. In
her early years, she followed in her parents footsteps and was a conservative
Republican. She and her parents were staunch supporters of Barry Goldwater's
1964 presidential campaign. At Wellesley College, Hillary was president of the
Young Republicans. She also interned at the House Republican Conference in the
late 1960s. By the early 1970s, Hillary had entered Yale Law School and began
dating Bill Clinton. You all know the rest of the story.
What happened? How, or why, did a sweet little girl scout, church girl,
Goldwater Republican, and Young Republican Club President marry a Bill Clinton
and become a wicked left-wing socialist? Did she lust for power and then sell
her soul to the devil? Is "lust" what she had in common with Bill?
Has anyone noticed that Hillary's mother never speaks to the media? (Her father
died in 1993.) Dorothy Rodham must be in a very difficult position. I suspect
that she wants to be proud of her daughter's accomplishments, but is ashamed and
embarrassed by what Hillary married and the kind of person that she has become.
Is Bill Clinton Evil?
Nobody can prove who may or may not be evil, but an individual's history and
life practices can certainly paint a picture. My gut-feeling tells me that
Hillary is more likely to be accurately described as "evil."
Although a strong argument could easily be made to place Bill Clinton in this
category, my gut-feeling tells me that other adjectives may be more appropriate.
Words such as trailer-trash, degenerate, and dirtbag come to mind.
What about Barack
Hussein Obama?
This may surprise my readers, but my gut-feeling is that he is a decent guy but
badly misguided. The
National Journal rated him as the most liberal US Senator. This is an
amazing feat considering the fact that US
Senator Bernie Sanders (Vermont) is an avowed socialist. (As a matter of
fact, although technically an independent, Sanders is the only Democrat that has
the courage to admit that he is a socialist.) The bottom line is that Obama is
to the left of an avowed socialist. What does that tell you?
And if that's not enough, do you know Obama's
position on national security?
And what about John McCain?
I haven't been so excited about a Republican presidential nominee since Bob
Dole in 1996. (But now that I think about it, I was much more excited about
Bob Dole.)
John McCain is astronomically better
than the Democrat alternative and therefore can count on my full support.

Editorial Page (Reader Feedback)
John, Love your analysis and the clothes pin reference. Great humor. Unfortunately so
true.
Dayton Daily News has a piece today about McCain in the driver's seat and
needing to reach out for conservatives. McCain does not have a bus large enough
for me. Sure I'll vote for him......I may even wear my clothes pin to the
poll......
Around Greene County it is rumored that Mike DeWine could be hedging for the
Attorney General job in a McCain administration.
In addition to ANWR, Gang of 14, and illegal alien amnesty, Mike DeWine lost
because of the gun vote. Many gun owners voted for Sherrod Brown - who is
terrible on our issue - to send a message to the ORP. (I believe Kevin DeWine
and the ORP has heard the message but unfortunately neither he nor the RNC can force
candidate positions or pick the front-runners.)
McCain is viewed as weak on gun issue. With DeWine in his camp, it will not
help McCain win Ohio.
McCain also has the McCain-Feingold baggage. That piece of work managed to be
both anti-1st Amendment and anti-2nd Amendment. It is the reason the NRA
launched the NRA News Network. Gun owners saw it as an attempt to silence us on
our issue.
I see a lot of gun owners sitting out the presidential campaign. I'll not work
for McCain. I see many others not voting or even voting for Hillary or BO. Gun
forums out there are raging nasty right now. How much of that is hot air
frustration and how much will be action is hard to say.
Here is a good link from the National Shooting Sports Foundation - industry
group - on McCain. I think the quotes show a considerable amount of flipping on
the issue. I often use the NSSF on shooting/hunting info - they are very
reliable. http://www.nssf.org/08election/index.cfm?candidate=McCain
I am hearing increased rumors that Mike DeWine will be his pick for AG if McCain
is elected. Mike's anti-gun record is well known and he did vote for AWB etc.
I've heard this from Republican contacts across the state.
John----Good report.
We must keep the Dems out of the White House at all costs, if nothing else but
the appointment of Federal Judges. We conservatives must lick our wounds, suck
it up, and tend to business. This means developing the same enthusiasm we had
for 2000 & 2004 in getting out the vote. I believe that McCain has got the
message and will do everything he can to win the conservative vote. I cannot
imagine the people of this great country of ours electing the Socialist (Dems)
party to run this Country. For those people that think Canada has such a great
Health Care System, here are a few statistics. TAKES 6 MONTHS FOR AN MRI, 1YEAR
FOR A HIP REPLACEMENT, AND A 10 MONTH WAITING LIST FOR MATERNITY.
Past Events

Kevin Craft sent me the following:
Cindy and I along with Hoss Newman drove to the Great Wolf Lodge near Kings
Island today to see Mike Huckabee. He was terrific as usual. He played base with
the band before giving a stump speech that seemed to connect with the 500 or so
attendees. He emphasized the importance of all human life and his strong
commitment to the unborn as well as the elderly. He also spoke about the fair
tax and what it would do to stimulate economic growth. He reiterated his desire
to stay in this race until someone gets the required number of committed
delegates. (He made a comment about the networks that I have noticed - no two
networks have the same number of delegates listed for the candidates. If nobody
knows who has what then why are they asking him to drop out?) He definitely
knows how to captivate a crowd with his mix of humor and real life stories from
his past. It was good to see some familiar faces there today as well. Janet
Folger did a wonderful job of introducing Mike. Janet also introduced Phil
Burress and his wife along with Ohio Huckabee campaign chair Jeff Longstreth.
I got a chance to talk with fellow Huckabee delegates John
Becker and Lori Viars as well as Phil
Heimlich and Tom Brinkman. (Tom is
currently a candidate for congress and Phil was until he recently withdrew from
the race)
February 23, 2008
Stephen Caraway sent me the following regarding the Adams County Lincoln Day Dinner:
Around 250 people filled the West Union High School on Saturday to celebrate our
Republican principles and look forward to the future. Our featured speakers were
Former White House Budget Director Rob Portman and Congresswoman Jean Schmidt.
The Adams County Republican Club did raise some of the much needed funds to
compete with the local democrat party in November.
February 20, 2008
At the Clermont County Central Committee meeting in Batavia, Chairman Rudd
explained the VOIP phone banks and how they are tied into voter vault. He
encouraged the membership to learn the system now, as part of the Schmidt
re-election campaign. These are the same phone banks that will be used for
the presidential GOTV campaign later this year.
Mr. Rudd also talked about the importance of absentee voters and talked up John
McCain's credentials for the job of Commander-in-Chief.
February 19, 2008
More than 200 people attended the Lawrence County Lincoln Day Dinner at Dawson-Bryant High School in Coal Grove.
Ray Dutey emceed the event.
I had the pleasure of sharing a table with my State Central Committee
colleagues, Kay Reynolds and Marilyn Ashcraft, Commissioner Jason Stephens, and
my former State Central Committee colleague, Phil Bowman.
February 12, 2008
The ORP hosted a brief conference call:
Chairman Bennett
gave a quick summary of the State Central Committee meeting and endorsements.
Deputy Chairman,
Kevin DeWine, discussed bills in the legislature that would change voting
procedures.
Executive Director, Jason Mauk, talked about the victory centers, staff changes,
the Regional Chairs meeting, and County Party websites.
The meeting ended with extended discussion and a Q&A regarding proposed
changes by the Secretary of State and Chairman Bennett's explanation of super
delegates.
February 8, 2008
Congratulations to Bob Bennett
and Jo Ann Davidson
who were elected to serve as Ohio's representatives to the RNC. They were
elected by their colleagues at the Republican State Central Committee meeting.
Jo Ann has been serving as RNC
Co-Chairman and Bob will be replacing Michael Colley.
The committee also endorsed Steve
Stivers for the 15th Congressional District.
Former SW Ohio Field Director, Adam Kuhn, has left the ORP to join the Stivers
campaign.
Welcome aboard to Kevin Servick who will now serve as the SW Ohio Field
Director.
Joe Forkin will serve as NE and SE Ohio Field Director until additional staff is
added.
A few other highlights of the meeting include:
Executive Director, Jason Mauk, talked about fundraising, the new ORP
website, and the replacement of the Shared Revenue Program.
Deputy Chairman,
Kevin DeWine, talked about modernizing the ORP by expanding Party services and
communication.
A new endorsement policy was adopted for State Central Committee members.
Incumbents now need a majority of our county Chairmen to endorse us before we
can claim the ORP endorsement.
