Unfortunately, raising money is a critically important component of any political campaign. Fortunately, a tax credit is available for contributions of up to $50 for an individual and $100 on a married/joint tax return. For 2009 the credit was on line 55 of the Ohio IT 1040 and explained on page 25 of the Ohio IT 1040 booklet. This is a dollar-for-dollar full credit. Therefore, the donation costs the donor nothing.
